Le Lavandou is a delightful former fishing village. Stroll in the heart of the town along its cobblestoned streets and follow the 14 fountains’ itinerary, each of them has a story to tell ! Along the way pause in one of the “Cruise Friendly” stores, which will give you the warmest welcome!
On the shady Reyer Square, stop to watch locals play their favorite balls’ game : the traditional “pétanque” and sip a nice glass of Rosé.
As the day goes by, don’t miss on The Painters’ Trail and walk in the footsteps of the artists who settled once in the area in the 19th c. during the neo-impressionism period (1892-1926). Get acquainted with Theo Van Rysselberghe, Paul Signac & Henri-Edmond Cross’ artworks, learn about famous writers such as André Gide and Emile Verhaeren. Along the 2,5 km (1,5 mile) trail are exhibited copies of these artists’ paintings. The walk will take you to the Villa Théo, originally the residence of painter Theo Van Rysselberghe, nowadays an art museum.
And as Le Lavandou features 12 kms (or 7,5 miles) of coastline and 12 of the finest sandy beaches in Provence, you may decide as well to go for a swim or relax in the sun.
